USAS Competition Swimsuits Note

published Tue, 19 Jan 2010 23:17:00 CST

Parents and Swimmers,

As we get close to championship season, there has been some question about Fast Skin II's and related suits. Gloria Schuldt sent a note to USA swimming about suits that are on the approved suit but are not full textile material. Please read the response from Bruce Stratton of USA Swimming:

One of the difficult aspects of this is that some of the manufacturers are using the same model names for both the approved and non-approved suits. It is my understanding that the Fast Skin II with the bumps is the older model and is illegal because it is not full textile material (the bumps are made of silicone), but the newer and approved model does not have the bumps. It will be important to check with the retailer when purchasing a suit to make sure it is the newer, approved model of suit. This is going to be confusing for all of us and will are going to have to do the best we can. If you need additional information or further clarification, please let me know.

In summation, older model swimsuits need to be examined. Suits with silicone bumps, squares, and any other shape are not legal. Please make appropriate adjustments going into the end of the season.

Sincerely,
